About

A family legacy of natural sweetness — over a century of heritage from Daher El-Mghara, Lebanon.

How Debsy Began

Back in a time when people relied entirely on nature, specifically around 1920, in a small village called Daher El-Mghara, Najib Dagher started making carob molasses to support his family. At that time, carob molasses mixed with tahini was one of the most common foods in the area, and it was the main source of sweetness since processed or imported desserts did not exist like they do today.

In a tiny press, using a copper pot and hand-ground carob, he crafted what became known as the richest, most flavorful carob molasses in the region.

When Najib noticed how much his family and friends loved its taste, he expanded his work. With his own hands, he carved a large stone to grind the carob and took his son with him every day to help. As the years passed and Najib grew older, his son Edmon Dagher continued the family journey.

Edmon and his wife worked on growing the business: they expanded the press, opened a small shop, and soon people began traveling from faraway areas just to buy their carob molasses. Then came the turn of their eldest son, Georges. After some time, Georges realized that producing molasses alone wasn't enough to support a family of six, and that he was sitting on a hidden treasure.

Splitting his time between his family in Jbeil and his work in Daher El-Mghara, and after many experiments, Georges and his wife created the first ever carob-sweetened cookie, 100% vegan, sugar-free, and preservative-free. That's when Debsy was born.

Today, Debsy proudly offers more than 40 products sweetened with pure carob molasses, each with its own flavor and character.
